Google Intelligence:

It’s a new feature in Google Analytics: Its very good features which keep its eye on entire website. You will be Alert by the Google Analytics on daily basis for the major activities and happenings in the website. This will help to you make marketing strategies on the basis of alters.
Eg: if you are getting highest number of visitors from Bangalore the you can start doing sales promotional activities like advertising, Local tv ads, banner ads, hoardings etc in that area to get the maximum business. You can get it on daily basis, weekly or monthly basis. You can set your plans accordingly.

You can see all alerts in your Google Analytic a/c – intelligence section. All the alerts gets automatically posted there.

For the custom Alerts: you need to learn little bit about your needs and accordingly you can create custom alerts. For example if you are seeing that you are getting highest numbers of visitors from Delhi but not the leads that you can create a custom segment for that with the bounce rate and exit rate. Now you can track what is the performance and can also diagnose the same, like is there any problem in the website or not? Why are you not getting leads? You can also create custom alerts on a specific part/segment of your website.
